Quick answer
The Vaishno Devi shrine sits in the Trikuta hills above Katra, Jammu, reached by a roughly 13 km uphill trek (or helicopter to Sanjichhat, plus pony, palki or battery car). Yatra registration is mandatory. The best time is March–October, with Navratri the busiest.
One of India's most visited shrines, Vaishno Devi is a rewarding pilgrimage that we make comfortable and well-organised. Here's what to know.
About the shrine
The cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi lies at about 1,580 m in the Trikuta mountains. Many pilgrims also visit the Bhairavnath temple above the main shrine.
The trek & options
The main route climbs roughly 13 km from Katra via Banganga and Ardhkuwari. It's a well-paved, well-lit path with refreshments throughout; most reasonably fit pilgrims manage it over several hours.
Helicopter & ponies
A helicopter runs from Katra to Sanjichhat, cutting most of the climb (a short walk or battery car remains). Ponies, palki (palanquin) and porters are also available — ideal for elders or those who prefer not to walk.
Registration & darshan
A free yatra registration slip / RFID card from Katra is mandatory to begin the climb. We arrange registration, timing and comfortable stays to minimise waiting.
Getting there
Reach Katra directly by train (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station) or via Jammu (airport/rail) then a short drive. We handle all transfers.
Best time
March–October is most comfortable; winters are cold with possible snow at the top. Navratri (twice a year) is the busiest and most vibrant.
