Quick answer
The best time to visit Kashmir is March to October. April brings the famous tulips, May–August is lush and green (ideal for Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg), and September–November glows with autumn chinar leaves. For snow and skiing in Gulmarg, come December–February.
Kashmir is beautiful in every season — the question is which Kashmir you want. This guide breaks down the year so you can time your Kashmir journey perfectly.

Spring & the tulips
Srinagar's Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden — Asia's largest — usually blooms for a few weeks in April, a spectacular carpet of colour against the mountains. Spring also brings almond and cherry blossom around the Dal.
Summer
May to August is Kashmir at its greenest — shikara rides on Dal Lake, houseboat stays, the Gulmarg gondola, and the meadows of Pahalgam and Sonamarg. It's the most popular season, so book houseboats and hotels early.
Winter & snow
December to February blankets Gulmarg in snow, drawing skiers and snowboarders to one of Asia's highest gondolas. Srinagar is cold and atmospheric, sometimes with a frozen Dal. Pack serious warm layers.
