Quick answer
For the Char Dham Yatra, pack warm layers, a waterproof jacket, sturdy trekking shoes, a small daypack, personal medication and a basic first-aid kit, plus your ID and Char Dham registration. Prepare with light fitness beforehand and acclimatise at altitude. This is general guidance, not medical advice.
Please note: this is general travel guidance, not medical advice — consult your doctor before a high-altitude pilgrimage, especially with any health condition.
Clothing & layers
- Warm layers — thermals, fleece and a heavy jacket (mornings and nights are cold, even in season).
- A waterproof/windproof jacket and a poncho.
- Woollen cap, gloves and warm socks.
- Comfortable, modest clothing for temple visits.
Trekking gear
- Sturdy, broken-in trekking shoes with good grip.
- A small daypack, a walking pole and a reusable water bottle.
- Torch/headlamp, power bank and a light raincover for your bag.
Documents & registration
Carry government photo ID, your Char Dham registration, and any medical prescriptions. We complete registrations and keep digital copies for you.
Health & medical kit
- Personal medication (enough for the whole trip).
- Basic first-aid: pain relief, band-aids, antiseptic, ORS/electrolytes.
- Sunscreen, lip balm, moisturiser and sunglasses.
- Discuss altitude medication with your doctor beforehand.
Altitude & fitness
Kedarnath (~3,580 m) and Badrinath (~3,300 m) are high; some light walking or cardio practice in the weeks before helps. On the yatra, acclimatise, hydrate, walk at a steady pace and rest if you feel unwell. See our guide for senior travellers.
