The Taj Mahal, India — best time to visit India region by region

Quick answer

The best time to visit most of India is October to March, when the weather is cool and dry across the north, Rajasthan, and the south. The Himalayas and Ladakh are best in summer (May–September), and Kerala's Ayurveda season is the monsoon (June–September). India is a year-round destination — you simply match the region to the season.

India spans deserts, tropics and high Himalaya, so there is no single “best time” — there's a best time for each region. This guide maps the seasons so you can plan the right trip at the right time. For specific destinations, see our Kerala and Rajasthan timing guides.
