Quick answer
The best time to visit Rajasthan is October to March, when days are pleasant and evenings cool — ideal for forts, palaces and the desert. November to February is the comfortable peak. April to June is very hot (up to 45°C), and the July–September monsoon brings a greener, quieter, gentler-priced Rajasthan.
Rajasthan is a winter destination at heart — the desert state is at its most magical when the heat eases. This guide breaks down each month so you can time your Rajasthan journey perfectly.
Rajasthan's seasons
- Winter / peak (Oct–Mar): pleasant days (20–28°C), cool nights, clear skies. Best for sightseeing and the desert.
- Summer (Apr–Jun): very hot; better for hill-station Mount Abu or fast palace-hotel stays.
- Monsoon (Jul–Sep): light rain, green landscapes, thinner crowds, softer rates.
Month-by-month table

Winter: October to March
This is Rajasthan at its best — Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer all shine under clear skies, and the Thar desert is comfortable for camel safaris and dune sunsets. December and January nights get genuinely cold, so pack warm layers. It's also the busiest and priciest season, so book heritage palace hotels early.
Summer: April to June
Temperatures soar, often above 40°C. If you must travel then, focus on the hill station of Mount Abu, choose air-conditioned palace hotels, and plan sightseeing for early morning and evening. Low-season rates can make luxury stays more accessible.
Monsoon: July to September
Rajasthan sees only light monsoon rain, which turns the landscape surprisingly green and fills the lakes of Udaipur. Crowds thin, rates soften, and the light is beautiful for photography — a good choice for travellers who prefer atmosphere and value over peak-season perfection.
Festivals worth timing your trip around
- Pushkar Camel Fair (November) — a spectacular desert fair.
- Jaisalmer Desert Festival (February) — dunes, folk music and camel races.
- Jaipur Literature Festival (January).
- Holi & Gangaur (March) — colour and processions.
