Quick answer
The Golden Triangle links Delhi, Agra (the Taj Mahal) and Jaipur — India's most popular first-timer circuit. It takes 4–6 days, is best in October–March, and extends naturally into Rajasthan or to Ranthambore for tigers.
The Golden Triangle is the classic introduction to North India — three iconic cities within easy reach of each other, taking in Mughal grandeur, the Taj Mahal and Rajasthan's Pink City. Here's how to plan it.
What is the Golden Triangle?
It's the triangular route between Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, each roughly 4–5 hours apart by road (or fast train), forming a compact loop packed with UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Itinerary & days
| Days | Route | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 4 days | Delhi → Agra → Jaipur → Delhi | The essential highlights |
| 6 days | Add a night in each + Fatehpur Sikri / Abhaneri | A relaxed pace |
| 9–12 days | Extend into Rajasthan (Jodhpur, Udaipur) | Golden Triangle + Rajasthan |
The three cities
- Delhi — Old and New: Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, bazaars.
- Agra — the Taj Mahal at sunrise, plus Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri.
- Jaipur — Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal, the Pink City.
Extending the trip
The Golden Triangle pairs beautifully with Ranthambore (tigers), Udaipur and Jodhpur (Rajasthan), or Varanasi for a spiritual finish. See our Rajasthan guide and spiritual tours.
Getting around
Private chauffeur-driven car is the most flexible option, with the Delhi–Agra and Delhi–Jaipur expressways making drives smooth. Fast trains (e.g. Gatimaan to Agra) are an alternative. We handle every transfer.
Best time
October to March for comfortable weather; visit the Taj at sunrise year-round. Summers are hot; the monsoon is humid but green.
