Road into the Kashmir valley — how to reach Kashmir

Quick answer

The easiest way to reach Kashmir is to fly into Srinagar (SXR), connected via Delhi and other cities. You can also travel by road via Jammu (NH44), or by train to Jammu/Katra then drive. Within the valley, a private chauffeur-driven car is best. See our Kashmir guide.

By air

Srinagar International Airport (SXR) is the quickest option, with connections via Delhi and major cities.

By road

The Jammu–Srinagar highway (NH44) is scenic but long; landslides can cause seasonal delays.

By train

Trains reach Jammu and Katra; from there it's a road journey into the valley.

Getting around

A private chauffeur-driven car is the most comfortable way to explore Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg.
