Two practical reasons. Jet lag from North America and Europe wakes you at four in the morning for the first few days, and four in the morning is exactly when Varanasi is at its best — the sunrise boat becomes easy rather than a sacrifice. And Varanasi is the most demanding stop on the trip; doing it while your energy is high, then finishing with three unhurried nights on the lake at Udaipur, gives the journey a much better shape than arriving exhausted at the hardest place. If you would rather have it at the end, we will reverse it.

Because it does not fit fifteen days honestly. Jaisalmer needs two nights to be worth the journey, and the drive on from Jaisalmer to Udaipur is around 500 kilometres and eight to nine hours — a whole day in the car. Adding it would mean cutting Udaipur to one night or accepting that drive, and neither is a trip we would want to sell. If the Thar Desert matters to you, we build this as a seventeen or eighteen day journey, or you take one of our Rajasthan-only itineraries where Jaisalmer has the room it deserves.

Four road legs. Delhi to Agra is about 230 km on a genuine motorway, three to four hours. Agra to Jaipur is about 240 km, four to five hours. Jaipur to Jodhpur via Pushkar is the long one at about 335 km and seven to eight hours including the stop, and it can be flown instead. Jodhpur to Udaipur via Ranakpur is about 250 km, five to six hours, and it is the prettiest drive of the trip. Everything else is a short domestic flight.

You arrive at and depart from Indira Gandhi International in Delhi (DEL), which has the widest choice of direct long-haul flights from the USA, Canada, the UK and Europe. Three domestic flights inside the trip — Delhi to Varanasi, Varanasi back to Delhi, and Udaipur to Delhi at the end — are included, with assistance at every airport.

Yes. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall with a name board rather than outside in the car park, and there is assistance at each domestic airport as well. Your tour manager is reachable on WhatsApp from the moment you land until you board your flight home.

For a first trip covering the Golden Triangle, Rajasthan and Varanasi, fifteen days is close to the minimum that does it without rushing. There are three nights in Jaipur, two in Jodhpur, three in Udaipur and two in Varanasi, so you unpack properly rather than living out of a suitcase. Ten or eleven days can cover the Golden Triangle and Rajasthan, but adding Varanasi to that length makes it a chase.

Yes. The car and chauffeur are yours alone — no shared coaches, no fixed departures and no other travellers. Guides are engaged city by city so you get a local specialist in each place rather than one person covering the entire north of India.

English-speaking guides are included in every city on this route. French, German, Spanish and Italian guides can usually be arranged with enough notice, though availability varies by city and season — Varanasi and Jodhpur have fewer than Delhi and Jaipur. Tell us at the enquiry stage and we will confirm what is genuinely possible for your dates rather than promising it and hoping.

It is a working religious city rather than a monument, and it is crowded, intense and unlike anywhere else on the trip. The old-city lanes are narrow, uneven and closed to cars, so you walk. Most travellers find it the most memorable part of the journey, but it asks more of you than the palace cities do. A good guide changes it completely, and yours will explain what you are looking at rather than pointing at it.

Almost. Photograph the ghats, the aarti and the river freely. Do not photograph cremations at Manikarnika or Harishchandra ghats — it is prohibited, it causes real offence, and your guide will be clear about where the line is. Some temples restrict cameras and phones at the entrance.

Entry rules vary and are enforced at the gate, including for non-Hindu visitors, and they have changed more than once since the corridor redevelopment. Your guide will advise on the current position on the day rather than promising access in advance. The surrounding corridor and the ghats are open to everyone.

October to March. Days are warm and clear across Rajasthan and the plains, evenings are cool, and the forts, ghats and desert margins are comfortable to walk. April to June is very hot on this whole route. July to September brings the monsoon — green and quiet, with fewer visitors, but road times lengthen and the Ganges runs high.

Largely, with adjustments. Amber Fort is reached by jeep, Mehrangarh has a lift, and Udaipur is easy on foot. The harder parts are the Varanasi old-city lanes, the boat steps at the ghats, and the climb inside Kumbhalgarh — all of which can be shortened or swapped. Tell us in advance and we build the itinerary around it rather than improvising on the day.

Yes, and this route is built for it. Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur all have former royal residences, restored havelis and grand heritage properties, and Varanasi has riverside heritage hotels near the ghats. What is available depends on your dates, your category and how far ahead you book. We name the actual properties in your written quotation and confirm them before you pay anything.

There is no fixed price, because nothing about the trip is fixed. The cost depends on your travel dates, hotel category, room type, party size, the domestic flights and the experiences you choose. Send us your dates and party size and you will have an itemised written quotation with named hotels, usually within one working day.

Yes. Jaisalmer and the Thar add two to three nights and turn this into a seventeen or eighteen day journey. Ranthambore for tigers adds two nights and slots between Jaipur and Jodhpur. Kerala or Amritsar are separate flights and add three to five nights. Tell us how long you have in India altogether and we shape the whole trip rather than only this part.

Most nationalities need an Indian e-Visa, applied for online before you travel. Requirements, fees and processing times change, so check the Government of India e-Visa portal for your own passport before booking flights. We do not process visas, but we will tell you what your itinerary requires.

ATMs are widespread and cards are accepted in hotels and better restaurants, but carry cash for markets, tips and small purchases. We can arrange an Indian SIM or eSIM on arrival so you have data throughout. Drink sealed bottled or filtered water only — your car carries a supply and every hotel provides it.

Tell your tour manager and we move the pieces. Transfers are rescheduled at no charge, and where a hotel night, a guide or a domestic flight has to change we handle it and tell you what it costs, if anything. Building an overnight in Delhi before your international departure exists precisely so that a delayed domestic leg does not put your flight home at risk.

You share your dates and preferences, we send a tailored itinerary and quotation, and we revise it until it is right. A deposit then secures the hotels and flights, with the balance due before travel. Every booking comes with a GST invoice and a written cancellation policy, given to you before you pay anything.

For October to March travel, three to six months is sensible — the best heritage and palace rooms in Udaipur and Jaipur go early, and domestic flight fares rise closer in. Shorter notice is often still workable, but the hotel choice narrows.
