Delhi to Dehradun on the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway, fully open since 14 April 2026, is roughly 210 km. Government messaging says two and a half hours; recorded drives range from a little over two hours on an empty road to more than four from south Delhi in traffic. Plan on three and a half to four hours door to door, then a little over an hour up the hill road to Mussoorie. It used to take six hours or more.

Yes. Since 1 August 2025 every visitor to Mussoorie must register online on the Uttarakhand tourist-care portal, giving the vehicle number, and receives a QR code that is checked at entry points and by hotels. It is free. We complete it for you and send you the code.

It is the best part of the trip for most travellers. Landour is the older cantonment above Mussoorie: a loop road under deodar forest, stone churches, the Lal Tibba viewpoint and the small Char Dukan crossroads. Walked early with a guide it is a couple of hours; the peaks are visible on clear mornings, mostly October–November and March–April.

Sometimes. From Lal Tibba the Himalaya is visible when the air is clear, which usually means early morning in the months either side of the monsoon. In summer the haze builds by mid-morning and in the monsoon the peaks are hidden. Go early and treat the view as a bonus, not a promise.

Yes, when the season is open: September to the end of June, on a licensed raft with a certified guide. The river is closed for the monsoon and does not always reopen on 1 September — in 2025 it restarted late in the month. Tell us your dates and we will confirm whether it is running.

Yes. Dehradun’s Jolly Grant airport lies between Dehradun and Rishikesh, about half an hour from the river, and has nonstop flights to a dozen Indian cities. The common pattern is to drive in on the expressway and fly home from Dehradun on the last day.

March to June for warm days on the ridge, and September to November for the clearest air and the reopened river. Mussoorie is cool after dark in every month. July to mid-September is the monsoon, when the hill road can close, rafting is shut and the views are gone.

It is available on your second afternoon if you want it. It is the busiest sight in Mussoorie in May, June and on weekends, and many travellers prefer Cloud’s End or a quiet afternoon instead. Your guide will give you an honest view on the day.

Mussoorie’s Gun Hill ropeway has had maintenance closures and the new Dehradun–Mussoorie ropeway is still under construction, so we do not list either as a certainty; we check for your dates. At Rishikesh, the old Laxman Jhula bridge has been closed to the public since 2019; you cross the river on the other bridges.

Yes. The walking is gentle and optional, the drives are shorter than most Himalayan itineraries, and rafting can be left out. The ridge is walked rather than driven, so comfortable shoes are the main requirement.

July to mid-September is monsoon in Uttarakhand and the wettest weeks are July and August at every weather station in the state. In the same weeks the Kanwar Yatra closes stretches of the Delhi–Haridwar highway for a week or more. We would steer you away from those dates; if you must travel then, we route via the expressway and build in buffer time.
